I’m a mother of four children in various ages (2, 9, 11, & 16!), and I am a frequent park participant who will travel a decent distance to experience a nice park! We go to our local parks, and after a while, the kids want something new or different to try. We will venture out to neighboring parks and get excited when a new one pops up to try! I like to research and view photos before trying a new park, which are not always available, updated, or as many as I would like to see to get the entire scope of the park and what it has to offer.

That’s when I decided—l will do it! I’ll go to each park in the High Desert and take photos and scope out the place for other moms like me who want to know what a park has to offer before arrival. If you want to know disappointment, take your child who LOVES the swings to a park with no swings—spoiler, it’s not fun for anyone!

Every park is different

It is amazing to have a variety of parks to choose from that have different attributes for all the different children who like different things. Okay, that’s a lot on the word “different,” but each park really is different! Okay, I’m done. The point is that those unique features are what makes THAT park the good park! Our good park has a sand pit (we’ll get to that park!), and we’ll go over all the cool qualities of THIS park right now.

Does it slide?

Getting down to the nitty gritty, Lime Street Park DOES slide. I’m not sure the different names of slides, but let’s just say there’s a loopty-loop, double slide, tall straight slide, short straight slide – the kids have options! I love this about a park because it gives something for the older kids, younger kids, kids who are afraid of heights, and the fearless child who isn’t afraid of heights! Options. But don’t just take my word for it, here’s a photo of each slide.

I am separating the two sections as little kid slide and big kid slide. There were two slides in the little kid section and three in the big kid section. With that said, my 2.5-year-old was rockin’ it with the big kid slides just fine!

Does it swing?

High Desert playgrounds all have their unique features, with Lime Street Park seemingly leading the park pack in swing diversity & inclusivity! If there’s a trophy to be had, they have it,. If they are to keep it, that will be determined once I’ve had the chance to visit more parks! Stay tuned. My kids favorite feature!

There’s something about each park my children gravitate towards the most—at Lime Street Park, it’s definitely the merry-go-round. I have not come across a Merry-go-round quite like this at any other park, and I’ve seen up to a dozen kids on it with a park dad swinging the children around (including mine!) so fast I thought for sure one would fly off or throw up. My sons’ faces surely looked green, but they did not want to leave or stop spinning. While taking photos of the park, all the older children were in school, so it was just me and my 2.5-year-old. He was able to ride the merry-go-round and round until his heart was content. I went as fast as his little self could handle, and we had a blast.

Let’s take a seat!

I’m getting older, and I used to slide down the slides, climb the ladders, and do all the things with my kids, but sometimes I just want to take a seat. Seating at parks is something I really have an opinion about because the shaded spots are always so far away from the play area, sparse, or non-existent! We need more seats, more shade, and in closer proximity the playground! I’m sorry, I went off on a tangent there; let’s focus in on what Lime Street has to offer because there is a peculiar amount of seating available!

Basketball court, tennis court, pools & more!

I’ll admit my kids have asked to go to the pool a few times, and we have not—yet! It is open during the Summer, and it is very hot in the High Desert. AC in my apartment is more appealing that a pool. I do, however, appreciate that it’s an option! As well as the basketball court, tennis court, baseball field, and more! Here are some photos that I would say are pretty self-explanatory, so I’ll shut up now.

Some Park Rules!

Lime Street Skate Park

With about 8 roller skates, a longboard, a skateboard…I’ve still never been to a skate park. I am not brave enough to participate in such activities, but I absolutely LOVE that it’s an option! A skate park is something that is not available at every park, but Lime Street Park really nailed it with this one!

To bathroom or not to bathroom

The dreaded park bathroom is unavoidable as a parent with small children. It is definitely a factor in choosing a park to play at and important to be aware of bathroom options before arriving. I did not go into any building or banquet hall; Lime Street Park was doing construction, so I’m not sure if there are more restrooms inside, but this is what is offered outside. The bathrooms feature one toilet, one sink per bathroom door, and they are all-gender. As a mother and frequent parkgoer, I think it’s important to share all aspects and features of the park.
